If you’re looking for a useful and convenient way to improve your life through active living, you can now find it at www.getmovingwashingtoncounty.com.  Get Moving Washington County is your new information source when you want to “Go!”  The Washington County Planning and Parks Department and the Healthy People Project of Washington County have partnered to create an active living website for Washington County.  The vision of Get Moving Washington County is to develop a culture of healthy and active lifestyles for all ages and abilities by offering opportunity for the active, inspiration for the inactive, and awareness for all. 

 

Now available for public use, this new active living website is loaded with helpful tools and information to help you live a healthier life!  This website is intended to benefit you, all residents of Washington County, and also those who wish to visit Washington County for tourism and recreational purposes.  Embrace the idea of having choices to engage the built and natural environment with our feet or pedals.  Use this site when you’re looking for convenient ways to Get Moving in Washington County.

 

The Get Moving Washington County website includes a user-friendly mapping application that allows you to locate recreational resources and map your plans to be active.  The mapping application features publicly accessible recreational amenities such as county, state and local parks and trails, lakes, common walking and jogging routes, historical sites, farmers markets, and much more.  Zoom in to your community and see the public recreational resources close to home.  If there is a specific activity you are interested in doing, simply click on a “Go!” link.  Clicking a “Go!” link will automatically list venues where you can enjoy a specific activity.  For example, click “Go Swim” to set up the search for publicly accessible swimming opportunities in Washington County.

 

The new site also includes an events calendar.  The calendar promotes local, nonprofit events that relate to healthy living and wellness.  Become aware of what’s going on in your community and participate in healthy living activities.

 

This site is also unique in that it promotes healthy living through other means than just physical activity.  “Go” links allow a user to quickly search for some of the more popular activities such as biking, walking, and swimming, but the site also includes a tool box that allows a user to search for dozens of other activities, some that aren’t as physically strenuous.  You can also search for activities and amenities such as camping, community gardens, public boat launches, and public fishing piers to name a few.  Users will also be able to search for activities and amenities with ADA accessibility.
